I had professors that also allowed me to bring my baby to class with me. I had my son the summer following my freshman year of college. He was born at 28.5 weeks so I didn’t want to put him in a daycare setting. I also needed to finish my degree. His dad went to classes full time during the year and I went part time during the evenings so I could be home with him. Sometimes our Warning tattooed girl with thick thighs and thin patience shirt just overlapped and that made it difficult for me to enroll in those classes. I attended a private Catholic college and my advisory was one of the nuns.

She sent an email to my prospective instructors explaining that I had a child and that I also had a goal of finishing college. Every instructor except one wrote back telling her to tell me to bring my son to class with me and we’d go from there. From the time he was a few months old until I graduated when he was almost 4 years old. He attended almost all of my classes with me. He never disrupted the Warning tattooed girl with thick thighs and thin patience shirt and would quietly sit and take “notes”, once he was old enough to pretend. Otherwise, he’d be held by me or sometimes my peers or the professor. I was so blessed that I had people who wanted success for me just as much.

If not more than I wanted it for myself. That tiny baby is now 18 and just went off to Purdue University to study aerospace engineering. I’m so proud of him and of the person he has become. Thank you all for the Warning tattooed girl with thick thighs and thin patience shirt. The journey has certainly not always been easy. I didn’t understand it then but it is as clear as day now, God was/is with me every step of the way. I am beyond thankful and blessed. For anybody reading this you can and do anything despite your circumstances. Never give up, I had a student reach out to me last week. He forgot he’s keys at school, and his mom was at work.
