With her debut album, SOUR, due out next week, Olivia Rodrigo dropped off the project’s latest single today. “good 4 u” draws clear inspiration from the pop-punk and emo-pop sounds of the mid-2000s, and its music video features a reference to the cult horror comedy Jennifer’s Body starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. It’s directed by Petra Collins, who has also helmed music videos for Cardi B, Selena Gomez, and Carly Rae Jepsen.

There are several potential parallels between the music video and Jennifer’s Body, including Rodrigo donning long gloves, but the most direct reference comes in the final moments of the video, when Rodrigo is seen swimming in a lake with glowing eyes:

The film concerns a popular cheerleader (Fox) who is possessed by a succubus demon and enacts revenge upon her misogynistic male classmates. It parallels the themes of the song and music video, which find Rodrigo out for revenge after a man quickly moves on from their relationship:

“It’s a super angsty song inspired by some of my favorite pop punk bands,” Rodrigo said of the track, which has drawn parallels to early music from the Hayley Williams-fronted Paramore. It’s a strikingly different tone than her breakout track, “drivers license,” which is a somber piano ballad. SOUR is set to drop next Friday, May 21.
