The Unexpected Nail Color That’s Trending for Spring

Beauty trends tend come and go with every season, but nail polish colors are pretty predictable. Moody navy blue, burgundy, and burnt orange are for fall, while sheer blush pink, lavender, and mint are for spring. But with a new decade in full swing, this spring’s trending nails colors are just as surprising as the weather.
The proof is in all of the black nail polish celebrities have been wearing on the red carpet. At the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Lucy Boyton paired her cotton candy-colored tulle gown with unexpected half moon nail art, while Cynthia Erivo went with classic glossy black nails for the 2020 Golden Globes.

The black nail polish inspiration doesn’t stop at the red carpet. Mel Shengaris, a celebrity manicurist who works with Jorja Smith, Shaliene Woodley, and Lucy Boynton says, “Black is such a chic, sophisticated color that goes with everything, so it can be worn at any time of the year.” It also looks amazing on every single nail shape and length.
To keep black nails feeling fresh, Shengaris likes playing with different top coats. A high-shine top coat will give you a classic manicure, but a matte top coat will create an edgier look.
