Make Art Not War Shirt

I have letters my grandfather wrote during. He was starting France and his letters home to his girl, who later became my grandmother, give a Make Art Not War Shirt at a soldiers life and feelings. One of time most powerful ones describes a day he spent burying the dead. My grandfather was exposed to mustard gas during wwi which damaged his lungs. He was an old man before he ever received help for it. His family suffered because he was not well, during the depression even well people had a hard time getting jobs and there was not the safety net that we have now. This is good, but the kids in UK should be taught how they colonized and looted India for 300 years. I do not think their history books reflect that. As someone who actually knew him he was a hero and a gentle giant. He died trying to protect his fellow soldiers and innocent people.

He deserved to get the Victoria Cross. I will never forget that day. On the news they said his son never knew him well neither did his daughter who has been forgotten in all this. Wendy Amies my husband served along side him in Hereford but not in Mirbat at the time of his death. I often visit the arboretum. And have seen Labalaba remembered my husband was on an exercise to Fiji in the late 70s and met Labalabas mother and family. So glad he’s being remembered and yes he should have the VC. My hubby has since passed away, but he would have been thrilled to see the statue. The United States did some pretty horrendous stuff to their native population after we had left. However getting back to the point of the news story, this is about a supreme act of courage by a Fijian trooper serving in the sas. He was not conscripted. This man was far braver than we will ever hope to be. With Rememberance Day shortly upon us, we need to think about people like him and, for us in the Make Art Not War Shirt remember those from home and far away who served.
