The apparel company was started by Doris Moore and Duke Boyd, who were looking to create a line of clothing that could be enjoyed by California surfers both in and out of the water.Boyd wound up selling Hang Ten in the 1970s, but the iconic company continued to be popular among surfers. The name was even inspired by the surfing trick, hanging ten, which requires surfers to place all ten of their toes over the edge of their board as they ride a wave, hence the company’s logo being a pair of feet.
