Knowing that someone with your accomplishments made it through is a bright light for many especially our young people. My 13yr old is going through this right now and it’s still a bit of that up and down route right now. He sees a therapist and some days are better than others.

I’ve battled depression also. I’ve admired you from the beginning and saw some of your personal struggles but you came back, I couldn’t have been happier for you. Seeing you grow into the wonderful man that you make me very happy. I have had two swimmers through high school/club, and one in college. They both experience anxiety but in very different ways. Thanks for speaking about this.

It’s wonderful to hear you speak of being human while dealing with your depression and anxiety because it brings home to others that they are no less human for having emotional difficulties, and there is a help. Thanks 4 sharing. You’re awesome in so many ways. I really admire u and ur beautiful family. I also have anxiety and OCD. But now I don’t have the money to buy the pills or go to the therapist. I need all the money I earn to help my parents. They are alone and they need me.

There is no shame about opening oneself up about one’s struggles. I have made over a dozen suicidal attempts since I was 12 years old; the last suicidal attempt I made was in Toronto, four years ago.
